Malibu Wine Safaris – Safari in Lalaland

I was watching RKOBH (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills) one night, and it was the episode where Bobby took Taylor out on a date in Malibu. The thoughts going through my mind were as follows,

1. Wait, WHAT IS THIS PLACE
2. How do I not know about this place when I’ve lived in Los Angeles for 14 years
3. Zebra, wine, and mountain top view? Sign me up!

I immediately texted all the girls about this place of awesomeness. Turns out they also watched the episode and had the exact same thoughts (and this is why we are friends). After scrolling through the Malibu Wine Safaris website, we booked the Explorer Safari adventure for the 5 of us ladies, which includes consumption of wine after some bonding time with safari animals. A little research here and there also led us to Malibu Wines, where patrons picnic with live music – hello yes please.

Nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, we made our way up the windy roads for our 10:00AM safari trip at Malibu Wine Safaris. Parking was a non-issue with the large open parking area as we drove through the gate. After we checked ourselves in at the little hut and signed our lives away, we hopped onto the Safari truck with the rest of the crew. Helen, as in “Helen of Troy” was our tour guide, a hilarious stand-up comedian. Tanner was our driver and oh my was he a cutie-pie. The actual Safari ground was less than a 5-minute drive from the parking lot, and we were transported into another world as we entered Safari-land. The Explorer Safari was a 1.5 to 2 hour trip where we were taken around the ranch to meet and feed animals, followed by tasting of 6 different wines, while we roamed around tipsy and borderline drunk. All around good times.

After numerous selfies and obnoxious laughs, we returned to the parking lot and grabbed our gourmet food for the Malibu Wines picnic (recipes: Ricotta Pear Walnut Crostini and Tomato Basil Couscous). There is free shuttle transportation from the Safari parking lot to the actual Malibu Family Wines site. Our reserved picnic table was only a table away from the stage where the live band performed. The whole experience was perfect and magical.
